Tuesday was the second “empty chair” hearing this month held by the Judiciary Committee. Three weeks ago, Attorney General William Barr declined to appear. The White House announced Monday that it would block McGahn from testifying, the latest act of defiance in the ongoing war between House Democrats and President Trump.Democrats hoped McGahn would become a star witness in their investigation into whether President Trump obstructed jus-tice, given he delivered critical testimony in several instances of potential obstruction by Trump detailed in the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.McGahn Fails to Show at Judiciary Hearing, Amping Up Anger Among House DemocratsAP Photo/Patrick SemanskyA photojournalist takes a picture of a name placard for former White House Counsel Don McGahn, who did not appear before a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Tuesday, May 21, on Capitol Hill in Washington. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Yemen’s Iranian-allied Houthi rebels said Tuesday they attacked a Saudi airport and mili-tary base with a bomb-laden drone, an assault acknowledged by the kingdom as Mideast tensions remain high between Tehran and the United States. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The attack on the Saudi city of Najran came after Iran announced it has quadrupled its uranium-enrichment production capacity, though still a level far lower than needed for atomic weapons, a year after the U.S. withdrew from its nuclear deal with world powers.Underlining the tensions, Ira-nian President Hassan Rouhani is seeking expanded executive powers to better deal with “economic war” triggered by the Trump adminis-tration’s renewal and escalation of sanctions targeting the Islamic Republic, the state-run IRNA news agency reported Tuesday.By increasing production, Iran soon will exceed the stockpile limi-tations set by the nuclear accord. Tehran has set a July 7 deadline for Europe to set new terms for the deal, or it will enrich closer to weapons-grade levels in a Middle East already on edge. The U.S. has deployed bombers and an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf over still-unspecified threats from Iran.President Donald Trump, who campaigned on a prom-ise to pull the U.S. from the Iran deal, has engaged in alternating tough talk with more conciliatory statements — a strategy he says is aimed at keep-ing Iran guessing at the administration’s inten-tions. President Trump has also said he hopes Iran calls him and engages in negotia-tions.A Trump tweet Mon-day warning Iran would face its “o cial end” if it threat-ened the U.S. drew sharp rebuke from Iranian Foreign Minis-ter Mohammad Javad Zarif on Twitter, who used the tag #NeverThreatenAnIranian.Bomb-Carrying Drone From Yemen Rebels Targets Saudi AirportMass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Je Sherman/U.S. Navy via APAn MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter from the “Nightdippers” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5 transports cargo from the USNS Arctic to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during a replenishment-at-sea in the Arabian Sea on Sunday, May 19.517 Iyar 5779// May 22, 2019517 Iyar 5779// May 22, 2019BREAKINGThe quality you desire, the care you deserve.718.373.1700 • www.HaymSalomonHome.comThe Kyocera TASKalfa9002iA natural high-speed printer forhigh-volume environments.845.425.5255732.844.0329Info@docsolunlimited.comdocsolunlimited.com German Holocaust Archive Puts Millions of Documents OnlineAustrian Chancellor Set to Face Confidence Vote Next WeekBERLIN (AP) – Austrian Chancellor Sebas-tian Kurz is set to face a no-confidence vote in parliament next week after his governing coalition collapsed over a corruption scan-dal.Speaker Wolfgang Sobotka, a member of Kurz’s conservative People’s Party, set a special session of the legislature for Mon-day. Opposition parties wanted it held this week, but Sobotka said he wants to “give space to the EU election campaign,” the Austria Press Agency reported Tuesday. Work is still being done to improve searchability.Archive director Floriane Azoulay says with survivors dying out, “it is so impor-tant that the original documents can speak to coming generations.”AP Photo/Michael Probst, file In this 2008 file picture Gary Mokoto , a Jewish genealogist from New Jersey, takes a look at name registers at the International Tracing Service in Bad Arolsen, central Germany.17 Iyar 5779// May 22, 20196 Information Hotline:718.664.9797To Contact the coordinator: Rabbi Moshe Shimon Reichbergfax: 732.647.1326lagbaomernj@gmail.com Call:Darkei Noam 718.506.1500zip code: 08852 Monmouth JunctionGPS Info:104 Deans Rhode Hall Rd. Gov. Jay Inslee signed it into law May 10.Every state allows schoolchil-dren to skip inoculations for medi-cal reasons, such as a compromised immune system or an allergy to a vaccine’s components. All but three states — California, Missis-sippi and West Virginia — also give passes to families who claim per-sonal or religious objections to vac-cinations.In many states, that number has been growing. For example, the Houston Chronicle reported recently that nonmedical exemp-tions granted in Texas rose 14% in 2018-2019, continuing a 15-year upward trajectory.Major medical associations, including the American Medical Association, the American Acad-emy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Soci-ety of America, oppose nonmedical exemptions.Proposals to scale back exemp-tions faced vehement opposition from “anti-vaxxer” groups, which scuttled them in several states. The distinction between exemp-tions for religious versus personal beliefs can be blurry. Few, if any, organized religious groups oppose vaccinations, and personal belief exemptions are far more common. In Arizona, Hawaii, Iowa and New York, bills have stalled in com-mittee or have otherwise failed to advance. The Washington bill would elim-inate the personal beliefs exemp-tion for the MMR vaccine, while preserving the religious exemp-tion. Despite medical evidence to the contrary, many anti-vax advo-cates repeat the myth that vaccines are related to autism.Amid Measles Outbreak,Little E ort to Kill Vaccine Exemptions[ ! ]CANBERRA, Australia (Bloomb-erg News) – Australia’s center-right government clung to power in a surprise victory, with voters backing its stewardship of a slow-ing economy for another three years and rejecting the opposi-tion’s progressive agenda.Despite trailing in most opinion polls for years, Scott Morrison’s Liberal-National coalition closed down the gap with a relentless attack on Labor’s pledge to take tougher action on climate change and strip tax perks from wealthy Australians. For Labor leader Bill Shorten, the loss is akin to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 failure to win the U.S. presidency.“I have always believed in mira-cles,” Morrison, 51, told cheer-ing supporters in Sydney, flanked by his wife and two daughters. “Tonight we’ve been delivered another one.”Shorten, 52, ran on Australia’s most progressive agenda in dec-ades, including tax cuts for low-income workers, increases to the minimum wage, sweeping emis-sions curbs and scaling back con-cessions for property and stock market investors. That presented a big target for Morrison, with blan-ket media ads warning Shorten was “the Bill Australia can’t a ord.”The government also ran on its record of economic manage-ment, across-the-board tax cuts and a return to a budget surplus. In the final week, it announced support for first-home buyers, mix-ing that carrot with the stick of warnings that Labor’s proposal to cur-tail tax breaks for proper-ty investment would send prices tumbling.Morrison’s victory is the biggest come-from-behind win in Australian politics since Labor’s Paul Keating pulled o the “unwin-nable” 1993 election. Like that poll, it was consistent warnings against the opposition’s expansive program that underpinned Morri-son’s win.Australia’s near 28 years of unin-terrupted economic growth is a developed-world record. But the harshest housing downturn in a gen-eration and a deepening trade war between the nation’s biggest trading partner China and its most important ally America now threat-ens that streak, leaving voters recep-tive to Morrison’s call for continuity.Australia Conservatives Snatch Unwinnable Election on EconomyAP Photo/Rick RycroftAustralian Prime Minister Scott Morrison speaks to party supporters after his opponent concedes defeat in the federal election in Sydney, Australia, Sunday, May 19, 2019. 917 Iyar 5779// May 22, 2019TUESDAY, MAY , / ט“עשת רייא ג“כPROGRAM BEGINS AT :AT THE JOSEPH & MARTHA MELOHN BUILDING TH AVENUE / BROOKLYN, NEW YORKP: ..
